That tea was the kind called sinensis. Gradually it was replaced by assamica seed from Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). It is only in recent years we have found the original sinensis trees that are still growing in Sumatra high mountain.</p>
<p>中国山茶背后的故事. 荷兰人在1684年的巴达维亚（今天的雅加达）开始种植茶树， 种子从日本带来（而日本的种子则来自于中国），那就是 sinensis 山茶树。后来，sinensis 山茶树被从锡兰（今天的 斯里兰卡）带来的阿萨姆普洱茶种子所替代。 直到现在，我们终于在苏门答腊高山发现了最初的中国茶树。</p>
<p>お茶の裏話をひとつ。 オランダ人が1684年に初めてバタビア (ジャカルタの旧名) にチャノキ(茶の木)を栽培した時、種子は日本から持ち込 まれたものでした (日本の種子は中国大陸南部原産) 。それ はシネンシス種の茶種でした。しかし後には、次第に セイロン (現スリランカ) のアッサム種に取って代わって いきました。 1684年に日本から持ち込まれて栽培された当時の シネンシス種のチャノキが、スマトラ島の高山に現在も 植生していることが判ったのはごく近年の事でした。</p>
